Wife Accuses Hubby of Battery, Seeks Divorce

No longer able to stomach the consistent beating meted out to her by her husband, a Lagos based housewife, Mrs. Awuwu James has asked a Lagos court to dissolve her 7-year-old marriage.

The aggrieved women drew the first blood in court when she told the court that her husband always derived some sadistic pleasure from hitting her at the slightest opportunity to do so.
She openly accused her husband of neglecting the children.
“He is also fond of cooking up lies against me and this is one of the major reasons why the love between us is no longer what it used to be. It has diminished,” she said.

According to her, since she met and married her husband, Mr. Michael James, she has not enjoyed the joy of matrimony.

“Since I met and married Michael it has been hectic; from one problem to another. He maltreats me and makes me feel like a mere slave. He pounces on me at any little provocation or mistake. Enough is enough. I can no longer cope with his incessant battering. His cruelty has made my love for him dwindle," she lamented.

Giving further reasons why she opted for divorce as a last resort, Mrs. James told the court that her husband does not only torment her but persistently disturbs her parents to come and take her back.

“My parents are also tired of his incessant troubles and complaints. Whenever we have a quarrel, he would run to my parents who do not stay far from us. He keeps threatening to make miserable for all of us if I don't move out of his house. When the situation became unbearable for me, I had to leave his house for safety sake with two children. We are presently residing with one of my aunties," she added.

Meanwhile, her husband who apparently looked sober and remorseful did not refute the allegations leveled against him. Instead, he pleaded guilty and apologized for all his misdeeds. He also pledged to turn a new leaf if given a second chance.

“Truly I have offended my wife and her family, but I plead the mercy of the court. I would never do anything to hurt her again, if she would forgive me and give me another opportunity. I pray the court to intercede on my behalf," he begged.

The woman however remained adamant and insisted on getting a divorce even after several pleas from the members of the court.

The Court President dissolved the union and granted the custody of the children to the man.

I strongly feel a hug and a slap should shared between the husband and the wife. I would however leave you to decide who gets what.
