The Nigerian Dream: Untold Story of Olajumoke Alao-Sanusi

A Nigerian bride wearing Fix U makeup during her traditional wedding
Without a father to turn to for help, wisdom and guidance, her eyes welled up with tears all over again as she mentally weighed the glaring options before her - Should she strive to become a student of a Nigerian university; but who would pay her tuition… or should she just hit the streets of Lagos and resume her fruitless search for a job?

Just when all hope seemed lost with no one to turn to for help, Olajumoke Alao-Sanusi let the tears flow; she sobbed not because she did not have money; not because death had snatched her father away many years ago; not because she was the eldest amongst her siblings yet without a job or a degree; not because she had applied for 15 jobs in the past two months yet remained jobless; not because her bank account balance was N236; not because most who had offered to help her desired carnal compensation but because all these were true and she was genuinely drained.

As she sat on the yellow-coloured plastic stool within her aunt's home in Lagos, she considered listening to the dark and demented voices that crept into her mind with whispers of immorality but she wiped another wave of tears off her face and said to herself: "No... Dear God, I just want to be happy. I want to have a life for myself. I really need your help. I cannot do this alone... Please..." just as more tears pooled in her eyes.

It was 4am... She wanted to stop crying... It would not solve her problems; a cold and hard truth.

She knew she had to be strong; not just for herself but for her siblings and her mum who resided in Ogun State at the time.

She tried to think of what she could do and then it slowly came to her like a rising sun after a very long and turbulent night; she had to throw a portion of her life into something she was really passionate about yet lucrative.

Of the many things she really liked, she truly loved colours and brushes a great deal and for the months that followed, Olajumoke opened up her mind to reading, studying, viewing and seeking knowledge towards becoming a professional makeup artist.

Olajumoke Alao-Sanusi
Today, Olajumoke is a graduate of History and International Relations, is happily married, is the CEO of 'Fix U Beauty Concept,' no longer cries at 4am and has become the voice and mind behind several success stories of Nigerian makeover brands.

Her wealth of experience and skill has seen her teach several young Nigerians to become professional makeover artists, beauty and skincare experts and beauty-based consultants.

As she has done over the years, she has once again opened her doors to Nigerians and other men and women who seek a career in professional makeover, basic skincare, bridal makeover, contouring and highlighting, Gele tying, photography makeup, fashion makeup and much more.

On August 17, 2015, Fix U Beauty Concept will kick-off another 4-week training course in Lagos.

Should We Slap or Hug the New Blackberry Z30?

Kindly read the review of the new Blackberry Z30 below and then decide if it deserves a hug or a resounding slap.

BlackBerry has fallen on tough times of late. After it announced that it had lost almost $1bn earlier this year, it received a buyout offer of $4.7bn, a vast drop from its $83bn worth only five years ago. Its launch of BlackBerry 10 on the Z10 was supposed to be its big re-entry into the smart phone world, but it wasn't well received by BlackBerry fans, resulting in poor sales.

In 2012, Fabuloux-J released his first single, ‘Without You’ with the help of producer, Kenzeal.

With his best foot forward, the singer has affirmed his eagerness to warm his way into the hearts of music fans across the globe. Another part of his music that he remains confident about is his song writing abilities and it would be interesting to see how he handles the world of music where creativity and originality take an interesting level of prominence.

Should We Slap Jay Z or Hug Him for Doing This?

We all know that Jay Z is a multi-millionaire and we also know that he is one of the biggest rappers (if not the biggest) alive in the United States today.

However, what many might not know is that he can take the subway like every other person if he chooses to despite his millionaire status which can afford him to fly a jet if he wanted to.

Should We Slap Danny DeVito and Wife For Ending Their 30-Year-Old Marriage?

After three decades, many would expect them to have seen it all in terms of matrimonial highs and lows but this was when Hollywood star, Danny DeVito and his wife, Rhea Perlman chose to bring their 30-year-old marriage to an end.

According to the veteran actor's publicist, the union has officially come to an end. They got married in 1982 and have been blessed with three children, Lacy (aged 29), Grace (aged 27) and Jacob (aged 27).

Do you think this could have been avoided?

Do you think we should send a hug to the couple for this development or would you prefer a slap for them?

Should We Give Adenike Adegbite and Becca a Hug?

Another interesting afternoon it was and i was loaded with creative juice when i saw this picture of Adenike Adegbite (I'll tell you who she is in a bit) and then something struck me. For confirmation, i showed the picture to a friend (who has never seen Adegbite before) I knew was quite familiar with the African entertainment industry and asked:

"Do you know who this is?"

She looked at the picture for about 5 seconds and said:

My Encounter With a 10-Year-Old Breadwinner [DIARY]

At his age, Sodiq Olumide under normal circumstances should be totally engrossed with school work, running errands for daddy and mummy, eating at the appropriate time and learning his first and lasting lessons of life.

This is arguably the normal atmosphere under which a 10-year-old child should be found growing.
However, this is a far cry from the deviant peculiarities that have become a constant part of Olumide’s life.
From Monday through Friday, Olumide roams the streets of Abeokuta with his peers playing, chatting away and seemingly having fun but on Saturdays and Sundays, Olumide takes on the responsibilities of a man.
In a chat with SLAPSnHUGS, Olumide revealed how he wanders through the familiar terrains of Abeokuta with older boys and girls of like minds in search of parties and ceremonies where they can work and earn money.

A Slap or a Hug for Nigerian Who Spent N20m on Wedding?

Babasola Olusoga runs Aso Ebi, an event planning outfit in Lagos. For a young man in his 20s, he has clinched some enviable jobs, which could make older hands in the business go green with envy. His winning streaks? He opens up in this interview with PUNCH

Q: How was Aso Ebi established?

A: It all started while I was in the university. My clothes were unique. Even for accessories, everyone wanted to know where and how I bought my things. So, I reasoned that I can actually make money if I sell these things to these guys. That was where the knack to buy and sell kicked off from. After graduation, I opened a boutique in Surulere, Lagos which I called Dojee. I ran the outfit for five years. At a point, I decided to start something on African clothes. So, I had a change of business to follow my idea and Aso-ebi came up. Before that, I was selecting pieces for people whenever they were having their parties especially uniforms.

Should We Slap These Teenagers or Hug Them? [DIARY]

Here's a story of some teenagers i had a chat with a few years ago. They were sons of retired soldiers and while they might seem untouchable, they got themselves involved in something that changed their lives forever.

Here's the story as i captured it back then:

Seeds of Sorrow

As sons of retired military officers, one might be tempted to expect them to at least, be law abiding citizens or even emulate their parents who are saddled with the responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of their fellow countrymen.

Can We Hug the Ex Coca Cola Manager Now or Should We Slap Him Instead? [ARCHIVE]

As fate would have it, i just found the concluding part of the Ex Coca Cola boss' divorce saga and this was how the drama eventually played out:

It would be recalled that the woman, Mrs. Shola Oloruntoyin Oguntoyinbo had earlier filed a divorce suit against the man at a Lagos court.

After several failed attempts to reconcile with his wife, a former Manager of Coca Cola, a popular brand under the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC), Mr. Olawale Atanda Oguntoyinbo has finally succeeded in convincing the woman that he is still deeply in love with her.

Should We Slap or Hug Whoever Did This To Nollywood Actor, Osita Iheme a.k.a Paw Paw

The longer i looked at this picture, the more i asked myself who coud have been responsible for turning popular Nollywood actor, Osita Iheme into what you're presently looking at in the picture above.

I know for a fact that Osita is predominantly a comic actor but what comes to me as a surprise is the length at which the brain behind this look must have gone to achieve this image of the actor.

Again, i ask, do we send a box of hugs to the one responsible for this look or do we deliver a truck of slaps to the person involved.

Should We Slap Peter Okoye or Hug Him?

If you're a guy and you often find yourself slapping a lady, punching her and then going ahead to beat her up, then consider Peter Okoye of P-Square a very prominent enemy especially if you take the singer's recent outburst into cognizance.

Here's what Peter recently had to say about men who fall into this category:
